Since the district has committed itself to providing more technology access to our students, we are equally committed to helping keep them safe and providing transparency while using district technology. As a result, the district is rolling out a new system called 'Securly Parent Portal' starting Wednesday, 10/11. Parents/guardians will start receiving a weekly email with detailed information about their child's online activity while using their chromebooks.  Parents of 7-12 graders also have the ability to monitor and personalize their child's internet experience when students are using their device outside of school.  Additional information such as the welcome letter, overview, and FAQ are attached below.  If you have additional questions about this system, please feel free to contact your child's school. In closing, we appreciate your patience as we implement this new system with the goal of keeping our kids safe.

Solar Eclipse Update:

With the assistance of county, city officials, local police and our transportation provider, the Union R-XI School District has continued to monitor the upcoming Solar Eclipse on Aug. 21.

Recently, MoDOT issued a statement to expect extreme congestion on many roadways in the area on this day and particularly in the afternoon once the Eclipse event concludes.

Local and county emergency service personnel have been very helpful, but since this is truly a "once-in-a lifetime event", they admit that due to the "unknown", it is impossible for them to know how quickly they will be able to respond to any request for aid should an emergency occur.

As a result, we agree with our local emergency management and transportation personnel regarding erring on the side of caution. Therefore, it has been decided by the Board of Education and District Administration to close all Union R-XI schools on Aug. 21.

We will still be teaching about the Solar Eclipse prior to the event and will be sending glasses home with each student on Friday, Aug. 18.

We understand that any decision we make will affect everyone differently, however, our top priority is and always will be student and staff safety.

Please enjoy the day and be safe. #unionrxi

Each year during the month of July the Franklin County Back to School Fair organization, in partnership with Jefferson/Franklin Community Action (JFCAC), hosts a school fair for the under resourced families in Franklin County. At the fair, kids receive much needed school supplies, clothing, haircuts, vision screening, dental screening, a meal and information from organizations regarding different programs available to their family, all FREE. Over 1300 children participated in the fair in 2016 which resulted in many smiling faces! We would like to be prepared for 1800 kids in 2017.

For more information about the event and a registration form, please see the attached letter and flyer below.

This week Beaufort Elementary will be participating in Read Across America Week and we'll be honoring Dr. Seuss' birthday with fun activities!  We are planning "Drop Everything and Read" time where everyone in the building will be reading at the same time.  Parents, grandparents, and community members are welcome to come and read to students as well!  We are asking the students to catch the spirit by dressing to match the theme of the day.

Monday - Make sure to wear your favorite hat as we prepare to read Cat in the Hat!

Tuesday - Wear your green, purple, and yellow - Students will be reading Green Eggs and Ham and enjoying a cafe decorated to celebrate Mardi Gras.

Wednesday - Dress wacky because we'll be reading Wacky Wednesday!

Thursday - Show those crazy socks as we gear up to read Fox in Sox.

Friday - Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!  Dress as your favorite Dr. Seuss character!

We are looking forward to a great Dr. Seuss week!

Starting February 27. Union Middle School will be participating in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) Pennies for patients program, a service-learning program that gives students the unique experience of working together of working together to help raise awareness and funds in honor of thousands of children and adults fighting against blood cancer.  This project is being sponsored by the UMS NJHS. We are asking that everyone (students, faculty, parent and family members, alumni, etc) from Union School District join in this effort to raising awareness and collecting funds to benefit the mission of LLS: to find a cure for blood cancers.

Every 3 minutes someone is diagnosed with blood cancer and every 9 minutes someone loses their battle.  Thanks to  the support of people like you, doctors are getting closer to finding a cure everyday!  In 1960’s the 5 year survival rate for children under the age of 20 with Leukemia went from 3% to nearly 90% today! You support is critical in helping find a cure.

To learn more about the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) and the work they are doing to find a cure for blood cancers or to make a donation go to the link below.
